Review
BMW 6 Series Convertible
The new 6 Series Convertible stands for open-top driving where you can enjoy an exclusive setting with maximum driving comfort without losing sight of the sportiness. In terms of looks, in our opinion the 6 Series Convertible looks best with the top down. You can do this very easily and quickly via a button on the center console. Naturally, this happens fully automatically. It opens in 19 seconds and the hood closes again in 24 seconds, up to a driving speed of 40 km/h. In terms of design, the 6 Cabrio, like other BMW convertibles, is inspired by speedboats. With the roof open, the rear of the car resembles the look of a boat deck.
engines
The 6 Series Convertible is available in 6 engines. As an entry-level car with a petrol engine, you have the 640i with rear-wheel drive from 95,250 euros and the 640i xDrive with intelligent all-wheel drive from 98,700 euros. The 640i is equipped with a BMW TwinPower turbo petrol engine with a capacity of 2,979 cc, a power of 320 hp and a maximum torque of 450 Nm. You can reach 100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds and the top speed is 250 km/h.
There are also two diesel versions available: the 640d Cabrio and the 640d xDrive Cabrio. These models will adorn your driveway from 98,750 euros and 102,200 euros respectively. The 640d is equipped with a 2,993 cc engine with six cylinders in-line. It is a BMW TwinPower Turbo diesel engine with a power of 313 hp. On paper this is not a huge amount, but the car does feel fast. At least when we were introduced to it in the form of the Gran Coupé 640d xDrive. This is partly thanks to a generous torque of 630 Nm. This elegant appearance reaches 100 in 5.2 seconds. This also means you leave a lot of cars behind you when you move on. The top speed is 250 km/h, just like its brothers. A 640d with rear-wheel drive is also available. This is almost the same as the xDrive, but slightly slower.
BMW 650i Convertible
We drove the fat, creamy V8, the 650i Cabrio with rear-wheel drive. If you prefer all-wheel drive, a 650i xDrive Cabrio is also available. Prices for these models start from 107,750 euros for rear-wheel drive and 111,200 euros for xDrive. Both cars have a 4395 cc V8 turbo petrol engine. This fast guy delivers 450 hp and an impressive torque of 650 Nm. You can reach 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds with the 650i. The 650i xDrive does slightly better with 4.5 sec. In our opinion, with this V8 the 6 Series comes into its own just a little better than with six cylinders. It feels just a little more exclusive. When you excite the V8 you hear a loud roar. He almost sounds angry when you drive him crazy. Like a king lion crying out over his savannah. What also impressed us were the pops that came from the engine. In terms of power, the car feels very potent and very fast. Rear-wheel drive is of course very pleasant and sporty to drive. Personally, we would choose xDrive. This offers even more driving pleasure and the car feels more integrated with the asphalt.
If all this is not enough, there is also an M variant of the convertible with 560 hp. For this you have to pay at least 139,650 euros.
Conclusion
Just like the Gran Coupé, the BMW 6 Series Convertible has become a handsome car with a stately and elegant look. In our opinion, the 6 Series comes into its own just a little better with a V8 and the car drives most pleasantly with intelligent four-wheel drive (xDrive).
