Mercedes E-Class Coupé

The new E-Class Coupé combines a stylish, timeless design with progressive technology. The coupe has the technological innovations as we know them from the other members of the E-Class family, including a beautiful widescreen cockpit and the latest generation of driver assistance systems. We were introduced to the E-Class Coupé through a test drive with the spicy E220d Coupé.

Motorizations

In the petrol range you can currently choose from 3 different models. The basic version is the E 200 Coupé with 184 hp from 51,425 euros. In between we find an E 300 Coupé with 245 hp from 56,507 euros. At the top of the range we find an E 400 4MATIC Coupé. This has a V6 under the hood with a power of 333 hp. You can park this model in your driveway from 67,639 euros.

Three diesel models are also available. We did a test drive with the E 220 d Coupé. That is the entry-level version with 194 hp from 52,635 euros. It is also possible to choose this model as 4MATIC for a budget of 55,418 euros. The most powerful diesel is the E 350 d 4MATIC Coupé with a V6 that produces 258 hp. For this you have to pay at least 65,219 euros.

E 220d Coupe

Our test car, the E 220 d Coupé, has a new four-cylinder diesel engine under the hood. This block has a capacity of 1,950 cc and delivers a strong torque of 400 Nm. The sprint to 100 km/h takes place in a smooth 7.4 seconds. and the top speed is 242 km/h. In terms of transmission, all models have a 9G-TRONIC PLUS automatic gearbox with 9 speeds. The drive is on the rear wheels and that gives the E Coupé a sporty dynamic. The gearbox is top notch. With 9 gears, the Coupé is always in the most optimal gear and shifting is extremely quick and smooth.

Innovative character

Like the other members of the E-Class family, the Coupé is considerably more intelligent than its predecessors. This car is equipped with an active brake assistance system as standard. Depending on the specific situation, this system will provide a visual distance warning and, if necessary, an acoustic collision warning. It will also assist the driver when braking or if he does not respond to the warnings in time, the system can also brake autonomously. In addition to vehicles, the system can also detect pedestrians to prevent accidents or mitigate the consequences of an accident.

You can optionally opt for a driving assistance package. This package consists of a number of safety and assistance systems that make the driver’s life more pleasant and safer. For example, there is the DRIVE PILOT that maintains the correct distance to the vehicles in front and can also follow at speeds of up to 200 km/h.

The evasive steering assistant will support the driver during evasive maneuvers. As soon as the driver starts to swerve with a clear steering movement, the system will support the driver with extra steering force.

If you unintentionally change lanes or if there is a risk of collision, the active lane assistant and the active blind spot assistant will provide support. The system will then brake on one side, causing the car to return to the correct track. This system can even recognize cyclists and therefore also works in city traffic.

PRE-SAFE PLUS can recognize an impending rear-end collision. In the event of danger, it will warn the vehicle behind via the flashing lights. It will protect the occupants of the E-Class Coupé by, among other things, tightening the seat belt tensioners and applying the parking brake when the car is stationary.

You can also optionally opt for a system where you can park the car remotely using your smartphone.

Widescreen Cockpit

An option that we think is certainly worth considering is the widescreen cockpit. Then you get a high-resolution screen and a screen diagonal of 12.3 inches (31.2 cm). The information on the instrument display is displayed completely digitally. As a driver you can also choose from three adjustable display styles: Classic, Sport and Progressive.

Conclusion

The E-Class Coupé, like the other models in the E-Class family, is a car packed with technology. In addition, it is also one of the most beautiful cars of the moment. With its stylish and elegant look, only the S-Class Coupé is more popular with us.
