MERCEDES EQE 350+ RANGE TEST AND FAST CHARGING TEST

Play Video

This is the 2022 MERCEDES EQE 350+. In this video, I want to discover the range in real driving conditions. I am going to test the driving range on the highway to find out the minimum driving range of this car. I am also going to do a second driving range test at lower average speeds to know the maximum driving range. I also wanted to know how long it takes to charge the battery at a fast charger.

MERCEDES EQE 350+

This is the MERCEDES EQE 350+ with the 90.6 kWh battery. It has a WLTP range of up to 659 km. So this sets quite high expectations for this range test. The EQE has an output of 292 hp and a max. Torque of 565 Nm. It goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 sec.

Frequently Asked Questions:

I will test the range first at higher average speeds on the highway. I wanted to know what the minimum range of this car might be.

At the beginning of this part of the test, the battery is at 100%. I base my estimated range on average consumption and net battery capacity.

I did the test in August and it was between 28 and 31.5 degrees.

For the first part of the test, I drove from Brussels towards the Ardennes for a total ride of 125 km. The battery dropped to 71% and the estimated range based on 20.7 kWh consumption is 438 km.

I left the highway for some sporty driving on wide open roads. Then I did some sporty driving on tighter country roads.

Then the battery was at 56% and the estimated range increased slightly to 458 km.

Now it’s time to drive all the way back to Brussels on the highway.

Let’s take a look at my results.

I drained the battery to 38% and the consumption dropped during this drive. The highway range ended up to be 487 km based on an average consumption of 18.6 kWh.

Now let’s test the range at lower average speeds. I want to know what the maximum range of this car could be.

At the beginning of this part of the test, the battery is at 33%. The temperature was between 28 and 32.5 degrees.

The first part was about 15 km of driving in Brussels with a lot of stop and go driving. The estimated range based on consumption of 13.5 kWh is 671 km.

Then I left the city and drove on small town roads. It was in an urban area, sometimes a little more rural, but with plenty of opportunities for continuous driving, usually between 50-70 km/h.

Let’s take a look at my results. After a test drive totaling 83 km, I emptied the battery to 20%. The average consumption ended up to be 14.9 kWh and the estimated range is 608 km.

The MERCEDES EQE is equipped with CCS (combined charging system). With this system, the EQE can be charged with either AC or DC.

For this test, I am going to charge the car on a DC Fast Charger.

The MERCEDES EQE can fast charge at up to 170 kW. Mercedes says it takes 32 minutes to charge from 10% to 80% at a speed of 170 kW.

I took the test right after my city range test.

At the beginning of the test, the battery sits at only 11% and the range indicator shows a range of 68 km. It’s 29 degrees outside.

The car indicated it would take about 58 minutes to fully charge the battery. I do a 30-minute charging test.

At first, the car charged at around 163 kw.

After 10 minutes, I was charging at a speed of 167 kW. The battery increased to 38% and we gained about 166 km on the range indicator.

After 20 minutes, I noticed that we were charging at a speed of 127 kw. I gained another 152 km of range and the battery is now at 63%.

After 30 minutes, the battery is at 79%. The charging speed dropped to 75 kw. The range indicator is at 488 km, so a total of 420 km gained.

I haven’t done an AC charging test with this car, but let’s look at some theoretical information. The charging speed of the on-board charger is 11 kw. AC charging time from 10 to 100% is 8h25 at 11 kW.

In conclusion, the range of the MERCEDES EQE 350+ is somewhere between 487 km and 608 km, based on similar driving conditions and measured at high temperatures between 28 and 32.5 degrees. I assume that in much colder temperatures you will probably get less range. I don’t think you get that much more range with higher temperatures. Perhaps the air conditioning was the reason why I did not quite reach the WLTP range of 659 km. However, these range figures are already quite impressive, so no reason to complain.

Fast charging at 170 kw is not best-in-class, but gaining over 400 km of range after a 30-minute charging session is more than good enough for me.

I would add that overall this is a great all-around luxury car. It has stylish materials and beautiful interior finishes. It feels like a real luxury Mercedes. It has an impressive range and can charge fast. Mercedes always has the best ambient lighting and night driving experience. It is a spacious car for passengers in the back seat. And even though it’s a sedan, you can still haul stuff by folding down the back seat.

With a 0 to 100 km/h time of 6.4 sec, it accelerates quickly. In the corners, however, it does not feel as fast, because with its weight of 2,355 kg, it feels quite heavy to drive.
