CUPRA BORN 77 kWh RANGE TEST AND FAST CHARGING TEST

Cupra Born 77 kWh

This is the Cupra Born with the 77 kWh battery. In this range test, I want to discover the range in real driving conditions. I am going to test the range on the highway to find out the minimum range of this car. I am also going to do a second range test at lower average speeds in town to know the minimum range. I also wanted to know how long it takes to charge the battery at a fast charger.

CUPRA BORN 77 kWh

This is the Cupra Born with the 77 kWh battery. It has a WLTP range of up to 550 km. The Cupra Born has an output of 231 horsepower. It goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 7 sec.

Frequently Asked Questions:

I will first test the range at higher average highway speeds. I want to know what the minimum range of this car could be. At the beginning of this part of the test, the battery is at 90%. I base my estimated range on average consumption and net battery capacity. I did the test in February and it was between 9 and 11.5 degrees.

For this test, I drove from Brussels towards Namur and back, for a total ride of 193 km. The battery dropped to 33% and the estimated range based on 20.6 kWh consumption was 374 km.

Now let’s do a charging test at a fast charger. The Cupra Born is equipped with a combined charging system. With this system, the Cupra Born can be charged with both AC and DC. For this test, I am going to charge the car at a DC Fast Charger. The Cupra Born can fast charge at up to 135 kW.

Cupra Born

At the beginning of the test, the battery is only at 21%. It’s 11 degrees outside. The car indicated that it would take about 1h and 20 minutes to fully charge the battery. I’m going to do a 30-minute charging test. After 10 minutes, I was charging at a speed of 64 kW. The battery increased to 34% and we gained about 48 km on the range indicator. After 20 minutes, I noticed that we were charging at a rate of 69 Kw. I gained another 54 km of range and the battery is now at 49%. After 30 minutes, the battery is at 64%. The charging speed is still at 62 kw. So we went from 21% to 64% in 30 minutes, and we gained 152 km of range.

I will now test the range at lower speeds in the city. I want to know what the maximum range of this car could be. At the beginning of this part of the test, the battery is at 53%. The temperature was between 1 and 4 degrees. I did a test drive of 69 km, first in Brussels. Then I left the city and drove on small town roads. It was in an urban area, sometimes a little more rural, but with plenty of opportunities for continuous driving, usually between 50-70 km/h.

Let’s take a look at my results. After a test drive totaling 69 km, I drained the battery to 33%. The average consumption ended up at 19.5 kWh and the estimated range is 395 km.

Cupra Born

As a conclusion, I can say that the range of the Cupra Born with the 77 kWh battery is somewhere between 374 km and 395 km, based on similar driving conditions and measured in fairly cold temperatures between 1 and 11.5 degrees. I suspect that in much higher temperatures you will probably get more range and in winter at much lower temperatures you will get lower range. It was much colder during my driving range test in the city. Had the temperature been similar to that during the highway test, you would have gotten significantly more driving range in the city.

Curious about the driving range of the Cupra Born with the 58 kWh battery? Then be sure to read my test with that model as well.
