Review

BMW X2

BMW will now present the brand new BMW X2 to dealers in March. We were quick to be one of the first to test drive this cool newcomer to the range. The X2 stands for a characterful design and a sporty suspension and is aimed at active city dwellers with an eye for design.

A cool X

The X2 is shorter and more than seven centimeters lower than the BMW X1, but has the same wheelbase. The result is an elongated coupe-like roofline with low windows. This makes the car look sporty, but also very stylish at the same time. Our test car was the Model M Sport and was also equipped with an M Sport package. You will then get cool 19″ rims. The side skirts and wheel arches are also painted in body color. You can further complete the sporty look with an optional M rear spoiler. In our opinion, the exterior color Misano Blue metallic is certainly worth considering. This color gives the X2 a striking and extroverted look and emphasizes the lines in the design.

Motorizations

In the petrol range, the entry-level is the X2 sDrive18i with 140 hp from 32,100 euros. You then have the choice between a manual gearbox or an automatic transmission. If you want more power, you can opt for an X2 sDrive20i with 192 hp. This is equipped with an automatic transmission as standard and is available from 38,400 euros. You can also choose this as an xDrive variant with intelligent all-wheel drive from 40,450 euros.

The X2 sDrive18d is the entry-level model in the diesel range. This has a power of 150 hp and can be found in your driveway from 34,650 euros with a manual transmission. An automatic is also available on that version. You can also order the 18d with xDrive and a manual transmission. The diesel range also includes an xDrive20d with 190 hp from 41,800 euros. The topper is currently the xDrive25d with 231 hp. For this you must have a budget of at least 47,200 euros. The 20d and 25d are equipped with an automatic transmission as standard.

BMW X2 sDrive20i

We were introduced to the X2 through a test drive with the sDrive20i. In this 20i we find a four-cylinder 1,998 cc petrol engine with a power of 192 hp. This X2 sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds. This petrol model has a sporty seven-speed Steptronic dual-clutch automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. The car drives very quickly and quickly. The ride height of our test car was lowered by 10mm with the M Sport suspension. This means that the car sits very tightly on the road and you certainly feel this during sporty driving. If you like sporty driving, we would prefer the xDrive variant. Then you always have the most optimal grip in all circumstances and, in our opinion, that makes it a lot more pleasant to drive.

Nice interior

The X2 also looks very cool in the interior. The dashboard is beautifully designed with great lines. The black panel in the instrument panel is particularly striking. Modern black panel technology is standard in every X2 and it applies to both the instrumentation and the information display. The dashboard also has decorative stitching. The central console is finished with materials such as Sensatec with contrasting stitching. Inside, you also sit a little higher in this X model. This gives you a good view of the road. The rear window is quite small and visibility is not ideal for parking. The optional reversing camera is an excellent help for this.

Conclusion

We saw the X2 for the first time at the Brussels Motor Show and it already gave off a cool vibe. That impression has only been confirmed after a test drive. It is a brand new model with a handsome appearance and looks. Especially when you choose the Model M Sport and M Sport Package with a striking color such as Misano blue. In the interior too, the necessary attention was paid to the design and a high-quality finish. Demanding customers will not be left wanting with the X2.
