Review
BMW X4 M40i
The X4 M40i is the top model of the X4 model range and aims to be the sporty king of the Sports Activity Coupés (SAC) segment. In this model we find a newly developed 360 hp six-cylinder in-line with advanced M Performance TwinPower Turbo technology.
M Performance
The BMW X4 M40i is a member of the M Performance family. In terms of positioning, these models are positioned between the top models of the regular BMW series and the purebred M models. They are intended for customers who are looking for a car with an exceptionally sporty character, but who do not want to compromise on everyday usability.
Six-cylinder in-line
In the X4 M40i we find a newly developed M Performance TwinPower Turbo petrol engine that was used for the first time in this model. This engine has a capacity of 2,979 cc with six cylinders in-line. The power is 360 hp and this engine has a max. torque of 465 Nm. This X4 sprints to 100 km/h in a tight 4.9 seconds and the top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h. This sports car has intelligent all-wheel drive (xDrive) with the characteristics of rear-wheel drive. This also gives the X4 M40i those specific M driving dynamics. The transmission is done by means of an 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission that has been adjusted for sporty driving. This Steptronic is equipped with Launch Control as standard. This allows every driver to make optimal use of the impressive acceleration power. You can drive the X4 M40i fully automatically or use the shift paddles behind the steering wheel. In this X4 we also find a sports suspension that was specifically tailored to the specifications of M Performance. The base price of this model is around 71,050 euros.
Soundtrack
The X4 M40i features a sports exhaust system with intelligent valve control and tailpipes finished in black chrome on both sides. This exhaust produces a powerful charismatic sporty sound that varies depending on the selected driving mode and driving conditions.
Sporty appearance
To underline the sporty character of this X4, the X4 M40i was provided with accents and style elements that we only find on this model. For example, some design elements have been designed in an accent color. This includes, among other things, the Ferric Gray painted pillars in the air intakes of the front apron. The exterior mirror housing was also finished in Ferric Gray. As footwear we see an optional 20″ rim with double-spoke 680 M design. In our opinion, the large rim is an absolute added value to the design of the X4 and we would certainly choose it. On the sides we find the M Logo in dark chrome and the model name on the trunk lid is also in dark chrome.
Conclusion
With the X4 M40i, they have succeeded in designing a car that scores well in terms of sportiness, without losing sight of its everyday usability. The car has excellent road holding and unlike, for example, a sporty sedan, you can also drive sporty with this SAC on rougher terrain or difficult roads.
