Audi recently renewed its best-selling model family, the Audi A4 and the Audi A4 Avant. The focus was on aesthetics and all technology in this model was completely redeveloped. We were introduced to the new A4 through a test drive with the Audi A4 Avant
Motorizations
The new Audi A4 Avant is available in numerous engines. In the diesel range we find a 2.0 TDI with a power from 136 hp to 190 hp. The basic prices are between 35,009 euros and 44,110 euros. There is also a 3.0 TDI available with a power of 218 hp or 272 hp for a basic budget between 45,060 and 50,710 euros.
The entry-level model in the petrol range is the 1.4 TFSI with 150 hp. With a manual six-speed gearbox, the base price is 32,160 euros. If you want even more power, there is also a 2.0 TFSI with a power of 190 hp to 252 hp. For this you must count on a minimum budget of € 36,110 46,360 euros.
Audi A4 Avant 2.0 TDI S tronic
We were introduced to the new A4 Avant through a test drive with the Audi A4 Avant 2.0 TDI S tronic with 190 hp. The base price of this model is 41,310 euros. For this you get a fun and sporty car with a four-cylinder diesel engine with a capacity of 1968 cc. It sprints from 0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds and has a top speed of 231 km/h. The Audi A4 Avant is driven on the front wheels. This S tronic has an automatic transmission with 7 gears. Thanks to the double clutch, it shifts up and down very dynamically and quickly. According to Audi, the average consumption of this car is 4.2 l/100 km and it has CO² emissions of 109 g/km.
Beautiful interior and finish
When you take a seat in the A4, you immediately notice how beautifully designed the interior is. We were particularly impressed by the stylish dashboard, thanks to a beautiful interplay of horizontal lines and a low dashboard that seems to float a bit in the interior. It must also be said that the level of finish and choice of materials exceeded our expectations. Of course, this also comes with a price tag, but the new A4 Avant certainly feels very premium.
Audi virtual cockpit
Just like the new Q7, the new A4 is a treat for enthusiasts of high-tech and innovative systems. For example, we found the optional “Audi virtual cockpit” on our test car. This gives you a completely virtual dashboard with digital tachometers and speedometers. You can personalize the view depending on what you want at that moment. For example, you can choose to show the navigation map on the digital dashboard and you can play with the size of the rev counter and speedometer.
Standard pre-sense city
The new A4 Avant comes with the Audi pre sense city safety system as standard. A camera scans the area for other vehicles and pedestrians and in the event of danger, the system will warn the driver. If necessary, the system will intervene itself and brake the car. Audi says that for speeds up to 40km/h the system can avoid accidents and up to speeds of 85km/h the system can reduce the impact speed of an accident.
Attention assist is another system that is standard on the A4 Avant. This system will analyze the driver’s behavior and will issue a warning when the system detects that the driver’s attention is waning.
Adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assistant
Optionally, you can also opt for adaptive cruise control Stop&Go including a traffic jam assistant. With this system you can set a fixed distance between your car and the vehicle in front. Thanks to the Stop&Go function, the system can bring the car to a complete stop and start driving again whenever the driver wishes. The traffic jam assistant can also steer autonomously under certain circumstances up to speeds of 65 km/h.
Trunk space
The trunk of the new A4 Avant has room for a volume of 505 liters. If you fold the rear seats completely down and use the cargo space up to the roof, there is a total of 1510 liters of space available. You get an electrically closing trunk lid as standard. You can optionally choose to open and close the suitcase via a sensor.
Conclusion
Actually, you can’t say much wrong about the new A4 Avant. Not only does it look good on the outside, but the new A4 also shines on the inside. This is perhaps the most beautifully designed dashboard and the choice of materials and finish exceeds all expectations. You can also equip the A4 Avant with numerous technology innovations as you wish. The price tag can be quite high. Motorists who like a sportier drive will certainly find something to their liking and the version we tested (190 hp) certainly offers everything for everyday driving pleasure.
