Review

BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer

For families with children looking for a practical car with 7 seats, the BMW Gran Tourer has recently been introduced. With this model, BMW is also entering a new segment. BMW drivers can now stick to their trusted brand when they are looking for a MPV. New customers looking for a premium monovolume will probably also find their way to the BMW dealer with the arrival of this model. We went out with a 216d Gran Tourer.

Three child seats

With a length of 4.5 meters, the Gran Tourer is certainly not a tanker of an MPV. However, there is enough space inside to travel comfortably for both the driver and all passengers. There is also enough legroom on the back seat to accommodate 3 adults. You can also place up to three child seats. In addition, you can slide the rear seats forward or backward and you can also fold them down at the touch of a button. There is also an optional third row of seats that you can fold down so that they are completely in line with the loading floor. With all rear seats folded down, you get a total of more than 1,905 liters of cargo space.

engines

In terms of engines, you can choose from 3 petrol and 5 diesel engines. As an entry-level entry into the petrol range, you can get the 216i with 102 hp from 27,550 euros. The topper is the 220i Gran Tourer with a power of 192 hp. You can transport your offspring with this from 32,200 euros. In between there is a 218i with 136 hp from 29,450 euros.

You have even more choice in the diesel range. The entry-level car is the 214d from 28,500 euros. This has a power of 95 hp. Not for the sporty driver. We drove the 216d Gran Tourer. This is available from 29,750 euros and has 116 hp. You also have a 218d with 150 hp from 31,400 euros. The top of the diesel range is the 220d with 190 hp. You can get this from 36,040 euros or 37,800 euros as an xDrive variant.

Models

In addition to the standard version of the Gran Tourer, you can also choose from 4 models, each with their own equipment level. We drove the Advantage model. For 1,350 euros you get electronic air conditioning, rear Park Distance Control and Cruise Control with braking function. For an extra 360 euros you also get front parking sensors. If you like luxury, you can opt for the Luxury model (+4,500 euros). For this you get a leather interior, chrome inlays and large alloy wheels. If you want a sportier Gran Tourer, you can opt for the Sport-Line (+3000 euros) with sports seats, among other things. With the M Sport model you go one step further and get, among other things, M Aerodynamics package and M Sport seats. For this model you have to pay an extra 4,650 euros.

216d Gran Tourer

We were introduced to the 2 Series Gran Tourer using the 216d. With its 116 hp, this will probably be the motorization in which many will choose it. We drove the manual version with six gears. If you want an automatic transmission, you can also choose the 216d with an automatic steptronic gearbox. The 216d has 3 cylinders in-line and a capacity of 1496 cc. Power is obtained from the BMW TwinPower turbo engine of 116 hp and a torque of 270 Nm. You can accelerate to 100 km/h in 11.1 seconds and the top speed is 192 hp. This is of course not a sporting champion, but we were still pleasantly surprised by how pleasant and pleasant this three-cylinder drive is.

Conclusion

Families with young children and babies will be pleased with the arrival of the 2 Series Gran Tourer. It is not the most beautiful BMW out there, but it is a very practical car with plenty of space inside, room for 7 people and all this with a premium finish as we are used to from BMW.
