Review

Mini One D

We were previously introduced to the sportiest regular Mini, the Mini Cooper S. In this video we did a test with the most economical Mini, the Mini One D. With a combined consumption of 3.5-3.4 liters, this trendy bird is not very thirsty.

The new Mini 3-door has been on the market for some time now and is available in numerous versions. As an entry-level model we have the One and the One D from 17,300 euros and 18,950 euros respectively and with 102 hp and 95 hp respectively. In between we find the Mini Cooper and the Mini Cooper D and at the top of the regular range is the Mini Cooper S and Mini Cooper SD with 192 hp and 170 hp respectively. If this is not enough, you can also opt for an ultra sporty John Cooper Works. You have to pay at least 31,390 euros for this, but then you get a bomb with 231 hp instead.

Low consumption

We went out with the Mini One D, the entry-level version in the diesel range. Under the hood of this cool car we find a three-cylinder with a lung capacity of 1.5 liters. The power is a rather modest 95 hp and the One D has a maximum torque of 220 Nm. The journey from 0-100 km/h takes 11 seconds and the top speed is 190 km/h. For a car that is mainly used in an urban environment, this is more than sufficient. In terms of consumption, the One D is a real winner. According to mini, the combined consumption is 3.5-3.4 liters.

A ring-shaped button around the base of the gear lever allows you to choose from one of the Mini’s 3 driving modes: Mid, Sport or Green. In Sport mode you choose maximum go-kart feel. The accelerator pedal and steering wheel have the sportiest setting. In Green mode, the car is aimed at consuming as little as possible and Mid mode is the default setting.

Interior

In the interior we find a new display and operating concept with the arrival of the most recent generation of the Mini. The speed and rpm display can now be found on the steering column as well as a color display for showing, among other things, the fuel level. We find a TFT display as standard in the center of the dashboard. This on-board monitor is operated with the Mini Controller on the center console and is used, among other things, for navigation, entertainment, telephone and vehicle functions. In terms of design, this also looks nice, especially with the colorful LED ring that also provides optical feedback when operating the functions. Good.

You can fully personalize your Mini by choosing individual options or one of the six equipment packages. The new Mini also has a number of innovative driver assistance systems available as options. If you are not a great parking expert, you can opt for a parking assistant. You turn on the parking assistant when you are looking for a parking space. If the system has found a sufficiently large lateral location, you will receive a signal. The Mini then takes care of all steering movements, while you operate the accelerator and brake pedal. You can also opt for a cool Head-Up Display or, for example, a Driving Assistant including Active Cruise Control based on cameras or a system for collision and personnel warning with braking function.

Conclusion

In addition to its brothers, the Mini One D particularly excels in terms of economical consumption. The power is a bit on the lower side, but this is certainly sufficient for a hip city sparrow. If you want a little more power, you can always choose a Cooper or a Cooper SD in the diesel range.
