Skoda Karoq

Skoda recently launched a brand new SUV, the Karoq. This new model features driver assistance systems, plenty of space, full LED headlights and a digital instrument panel. As you would expect from Skoda, there are also numerous practical solutions on board in this Karoq.

Five engines

Under the hood, Skoda offers a choice of two petrol and three diesel engines. The cylinder capacity is 1.0, 1.5, 1.6 or 2.0 l respectively and these engines deliver a power of 115 hp to 190 hp. The Skoda Karoq is available from 25,850 euros for a 1.0 TSI with manual transmission. For the top models such as a 2.0 TDI with DSG-7 you have to pay at least 37,090 euros.

2.0 TDI

We went out with the Skoda Karoq with a 2.0 TDI. This delivers a power of 150 hp and a max. torque of 340 Nm. The SUV goes from 0-100 km/h in 8.7 seconds and has a top speed of 196 km/h. Our test car was also equipped with four-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission. With this motorization, the Karoq moves quickly and thanks to the high torque, the Karoq feels powerful. However, we would consider the DSG-7, because it is much more pleasant to drive in daily traffic than a manual transmission.

Digital instrument cluster

For the first time, you can now also choose a fully digital instrument panel at Skoda. There are four different display options. The Classic view shows the tachometer and speedometer as round instruments on the left and right of the display. The Extended view fills the full width of the display, for example with the navigation map. The Modern layout offers a large display in the center on which, for example, the map can be displayed. The Basic view offers two large screens on which only selected information is shown, such as the current speed.

Furthermore, other innovations can also be found on this Karoq. There is also a heated steering wheel and three personalized keys. This is useful if, for example, you often share the car with different people within the family. Once a specific driver unlocks the car, his or her personal settings are selected. This concerns various matters such as the settings of the electrically adjustable seats, the set driving profile, the climate control, etc.

Driver assistance systems

Numerous driver assistance systems are also available on this Karoq, which were previously only found on cars from the higher segment.

The Karoq is equipped with Front Assist including City Emergency Brake and pedestrian detection as standard. As soon as the system registers an impending collision, it warns the driver in several steps. If necessary, it can automatically brake the car, even to a complete stop. The pedestrian detection, which is also standard, supplements the operation of Front Assist. This system initiates emergency braking at speeds between 10 and 60 km/h if risk is detected due to a pedestrian crossing the car’s path.

We also thought Lane Assist was an option worth considering. At speeds above 65 km/h, Lane Assist helps you stay within the lane via corrective steering intervention. This happens when you drive towards the lane markings without using the turn signals.

If you are often stuck in traffic jams, you can opt for the traffic jam assistant Traffic Jam Assist. This system offers more safety and comfort in traffic jams and ‘stop & go’ traffic.

Conclusion

The Skoda Karoq has become an SUV that feels surprisingly premium. This SUV can be very tempting, especially in the Style version with extra options and a beautiful finish. In our opinion, driver assistance systems such as Lane Assist or the new digital dashboard are options worth considering.
