BMW 225e XDRIVE ACTIVE TOURER PLUG-IN HYBRID RANGE TEST

BMW 225e xDrive Active Tourer plug-in hybride rijbereik test

This is the BMW 225e xDrive Active Tourer plug-in hybrid. In this range test I want to discover the range on the highway in real driving conditions in order to find out the minimum range of this car. I only did the test on the highway and not again separately in the city, because I noticed that there is not that much difference with plug-in hybrids. Feel free to read my test with the BMW X3 xDrive30e PHEV and the BMW 530e xDrive Touring PHEV, where I did the test on the highway and in the city.

I’m going to test the range at higher average speeds on the highway. I want to know what the minimum range of this car could be. I did the test in February and it was between 6.5 and 8.5 degrees during the test. At the beginning of this part of the test, the battery is at 100%. After 13 km, the battery is at 75% and the range indicator shows a range of 61 km. The average consumption is 22.6 kWh/100 km. After driving 47 km, the battery is at 25% and the range indicator still shows a range of 22 km. The average consumption is 20.2 kWH/100 km. We drove the battery completely empty and the end result was a range of 66 km and an average consumption of 20.4 kWh.

Now let’s do a charging test at an AC charging station. This BMW 225e has a 7.4 kW on-board charger. BMW says it takes 2.5 hours to charge the battery from 0 to 100% at a rate of 7.4kW. We did the test and it actually took 2.5 hours to fully charge the battery.

BMW 225e xDrive Active Tourer plug-in hybride

In conclusion, I can say that the range of the BMW 225e xDrive Active Tourer plug-in hybrid on the highway is around 66 km, based on comparable driving conditions and measured at low temperatures between 6 and 8.5 degrees. In the city you will probably have a similar range or a few kilometers more. I suspect you will get more range at much higher temperatures. Based on previous tests with PHEVs will probably be around the WLTP range of 82 to 92 km in the summer.

Thanks for the info on pure electric driving. But what about the fuel consumption, how many liters per 100 km (driving at 120 km/h or less) with a) full battery at the start, b) (almost) empty battery at the start? Thanks.

Hi Johan thanks a lot for detailed range test I was unable to find anything similar on other reviews. Keep up doing great work! Still interested to see how much range would be in city driving conditions under warmer temperatures.
Thanks
